Recap: "faith" is ... Believing in God who speaks through His evangelists (messengers of God's news), in particular believing Jesus when He said that He is God's son who was given for us so that we might be justified.
faith as pictured in the Old Testament:

Sample abstract: "faith" is to believe in God's Word spoken to His prophet Moses forever
Sample Commentary:
It seems also to have been particularly intended to put an honour upon Moses: That they may hear when I speak with thee, and believe thee for ever. Thus the correspondence was to be first settled by a sensible appearance of the divine glory, which was afterwards to be carried on more silently by the ministry of Moses. In like manner, the Holy Ghost descended visibly upon Christ at his baptism, and all that were present heard God speak to him (Matthew 3:17), that afterwards, without the repetition of such visible tokens, they might believe him. So likewise the Spirit descended in cloven tongues upon the apostles (Acts 2:3), that they might be believed. -- Matthew Henry

Sample abstract: "faith" is believing in Jesus Christ "faith" is the key to eternal life
Sample Commentary:
Faith is the great principle of Christianity, motivating every act of obedience, securing the believer in times of bewilderment or temptation, sustaining the disciple through tribulations and distress, and enlightening the soul during every darkness. Faith is the first of the preconditions of redemption in Christ Jesus, and it is also the last, there never being a single moment of the Christian pilgrimage when faith is not required. Without faith it is impossible to please God (Hebrews 11:6). "On him ..." is alleged to be one of the words that is Johannine rather than from Christ, but such a conceit is rejected. Glorious as faith assuredly is, it is faith "in Christ" that saves, not faith "in faith." -- Jame Burton Coffman
